About this title

Synopsis:

This book tells the story of the life and times of the Most Reverend Joseph Michael Gilmore, the Fifth Bishop of Helena, 1936-1962. Bishop Gilmore's tenture was the longest and among the most progressive of any of the 10 bishops who have served the Helena Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. Written by Father Joseph B. Oblinger, now of Bozeman, Montana, but who served many years as chancellor to Bishop Gilmore, the biography allows Bishop Gilmore to tell much of the story of his career as he is generously quoted in the book from voluminous records on hand at the diocese of letters, speeches and other commentaries made by the Bishop. Thirteen chapters and a detailed appendix, a Prologue by Father Oblinger, and some 123 historic black and white photographs make up the book.

About the Author:
