About this Item

Illustrated wraps. 62 pp., plus 10 pages of ads. A single issue of this magazine devoted to short stories, featuring 'The Return of Chee Lee,' by James Francis Dwyer; 'The Professional Bridesmaid,' by Anne Pislbury; 'The Moran Twins,' by C.B. Loomis, and others. The Black Cat was a magazine devoted to short stories, then a form that was beginning to rise in popularity in the United States. Considered a commercial enterprise, the magazine appropriated some of the imagery and form then in use by the various 'little magazines' and small presses at the turn of the century. (MacLeod. American Little Magazines of the 1890s, p. 64). GOOD condition. Some small areas of staining along the fore edge. Moderate general browning to the covers, with minor soiling. Small triangular piece missing from the upper rear cover. Interior clean and solid. Bookseller Inventory # 007348
