A novel about a coal strike and the miners in Western Pennsylvania. Based upon the author's script for a movie starring Paul Muni. This novel is legend of Jan Volkanik, plaque in Pittsburg, Pa. memorializes him and his work in relation to social action in relation to the conditions in deep mining. in pittsburg. One of best accounts of work in coal mine, the dnagers and hardships faced by the men and their families, and the injustics tat they were subjected to. Afterword of little known factual history of mining and the men who toiled in them. A note of interest, Musmanno was brilliant lawyer in Nuremberg trials. A a person who worked in the mining areas of Viriginia and Kentucky, this book shop owner has found this one of the best accounts I've read of the social and political issues of the mining industry on the 1920's but with a real ability to show the human side of the men and their families.
