First Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for gift inscription on FFFP. Book Condition: VG: slight wear to bottom of boards from shelving; foxing to text block edges; several splash marks on text block. DJ: VG; closed tear on front upper flap corner; moisture warping to lower cover on rear; suntanning to upper front cover. Green and brown cloth boards and spine with black lettering on spine and front board with black drawing of Arkansas City on the front board and spine. 270 pp 8vo. Blaze marks were chopped high on trees to designate the Kansas-Indian Territory boundary in 1857 which ultimately worked against Arkansas City being the County Seat of Cowley County giving the edge to Winfield, 10 miles north. The early history of Arkansas City is presented in Section II. The Historical fiction of Section I attempts to create the mood and setting for the historical events that followed.
