About this Item

"This new architectural space in Tokyo was born in the historical time-frame of the end of the 1990s. Standing in this space that seems to synbolize the crystallization of all the knowledge and technology possible for people to possess at the present time. I find that there are three things I want to record in the memory. These things are also the conceptions that served as the guiding principles for selecting contemporary works of art for the Tokyo International Forum. First, the Tokyo International Forum is located in a place that has historically been a hub for transportation. As the second defining theme of this architectural space and the art within it, I would like to raise the keyword of 'time.'.Finally, I would like to point out the fact that the Tokyo International Forum architecture and the project to install art within it were both guided by the conceptions and sensibilities of individuals. As you can see both from the plates introduced here and from actually moving within the space, the enjoyment of art at the Forum has been designed to serve as a 'hidden spice.' Strolling through the Plaza, you encounter a large sculpture. You view it from various angles. And your enjoyment of it will undergo various transformations according to the weathger, the play of sunlight and the movement of the wind. As for the works installed indoors, your eyes might be caught by a painting on the wall during a performance intermission, and there is also the group of works that stand quietly at rendezvous points, filling up our 'stopped time.' Many of the two-dimensional works that have been installed in the smaller conference rooms have also been selected for their suitability to a time for thinking and exchanging courtesies. The conference room is a semi-private space; the Forum offers a 'luxury of the spirit' in which it is possible to choose a conference room according to the works of an artist one admires." {KOIKE Kazuko}. This book has 132 pages and is profusely illustrated. The text is written in JAPANESE/ENGLISH. Overall, this is a FINE copy of this EXTREMELY SCARCE title. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
