About this title

Boyds Mills Press publishes a wide range of high-quality fiction and nonfiction picture books, chapter books, novels, and nonfiction

From Library Journal:

Grade 2-4-A book that includes facts about dolphins, frogs, monkeys, bats, lizards, ducks, bears, and more. Each spread contains a full-page illustration featuring an environment with eight different animals that inhabit it. On the right, each one is highlighted with brief information, but one of them is a fake. Readers are asked to read the descriptions and inspect the pictures to identify the imaginary creature. Sometimes, the facts are a bit sparse and the clues are too obscure, turning the search into more of a guessing game. Using the clues to find the answer could be more of an exercise in frustration than a fun or educational experience. Most youngsters will probably discover the "bogus" animal by looking at the answers at the back of the book. Adults will enjoy the clever names of some of the beasts, such as "Shevrolay's Dolphin" or the "Louisville Sluggish Bat." The watercolor illustrations are adequate, but their simplicity may add to the confusion of what is real and what is imaginary.
