This is a joke book, containing the comedy of Sydney Smith (1771-1845), an English wit and writer,and Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816), an Irish satirist, playwright and poet. Edited by Walter Jerrold (1865-1929), an English biographer and writer.Illustrated throughout with 'grotesques' by Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898), an English illustrator who contributed to the development of the Art Nouveau style. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with a glassine dust wrapper. Externally very smart, discolouration to the head and tail of the spine. Glassine has loss to the spine, with only an inch and a half remaining, it is in two pieces; there is also a large tear across the front of the cover. Gift inscription to the front endpaper.
