Synopsis: The First Special Service Force, grandfather of today's Special Forces, was a unique US Army unit made up of Canadian and US troops that trained secretly in Helena, Montana soon after Pearl Harbor. In combat it never lost a battle. The FSSF was formed by Colonel Robert T. Frederick to answer a plan of Britain's prime minister, Winston Churchill, for the invasion of Europe through Norway. The plan was abandoned in favor of the famous invasion through France's Normandy. So the Force saw dramatic action first in Italy and then in the invasion of southern France. Bonding For Life tells the story of peacetime bonding of the Force veterans over the 61 years after the war. Annually they have had a reunion first in the US and then the following year in Canada. A movie was made in 1968 about he Force's dramatic capture of an Italian mountain in two days after the US Fifth Army had been trying for two months. "Devils Brigade" starred William Holden. More than a dozen books have been written about the Force and thousands about World War II. But never before has any dealt exclusively with the post-war years.
