Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 5th or later Edition. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1977. Fifth Edition. A near-fine copy in black boards with gilt spine letters, with a tiny remainder mark on the bottom text block, else fine, in a near-fine yellow and black dustwrapper with two tiny folds to the front flap, else fine. The novel is a story set in the fictional Central American country of "Boca Grande." The novel isnarrated by an American expatriate who married into one of the three or four families that dominate Boca Grande politics. Despite her scientific training, Grace remains uncomprehending and cut off from the people around her, and in the final line of the novel she admits, "I have not been the witness I wanted to be." But the main character in the book is Charlotte Douglas, another American woman living in Boca Grande. Charlotte's beloved daughter Marin has run off with a group of Marxist radicals and taken part in an absurd act of terrorism and Charlotte is fervently looking for her. Didion has written this book with her usual fine eye and discerning emotions. She has signed this copy on the title page. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 009877

Book Description Easton Press. Hardcover. Condition: New. No Jacket. Limited Edition. VERY FINE GUARANTEED. As New (Sealed). The condition is of the highest quality without any discernible flaws. Lifetime Guarantee of Signature Authenticity. Personally hand SIGNED by the author directly into the book. The autograph is not a facsimile, stamp, or auto-pen. Personally SIGNED by Joan Didion directly onto a special title page. Easton Press, Norwalk, CT. "A Book of Common Prayer" by Joan Didion. Signed Limited Edition. COA laid in. Full genuine leather. An attractive leather bound collectible heirloom. Only 1,200 signed limited editions were printed for this special edition. About the book: A Book of Common Prayer is the story of two American women in the derelict Central American nation of Boca Grande. Grace Strasser-Mendana controls much of the country's wealth and knows virtually all of its secrets; Charlotte Douglas knows far too little. "Immaculate of history, innocent of politics," she has come to Boca Grande vaguely and vainly hoping to be reunited with her fugitive daughter. As imagined by Didion, her fate is at once utterly particular and fearfully emblematic of an age of conscienceless authority and unfathomable violence. Reviews: An articulate witness to the most stubborn and intractable truths of our time, a memorable voice."-- Joyce Carol Oates, The New York Times Book Review "A novelist with important things to say about the dislocations of our time. Joan Didion is stellar."--Newsday. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # ep500

Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1981. Signed, Limited Edition. Signed by Joan Didion on the third free end paper, with tissue guard. First Edition Thus.
