Book Description Richard Edwards ('Printed by and for.'), London, 1813. Original grey boards. 1st Thus, orig. 1807. Originally published in 1807 at the direction of the ill-fated later Prime Minister Spencer Perceval, Princess Caroline's leading defender, who was at that time in opposition, it was however almost immediately suppressed and burned due to changed political circumstances. This subsequent edition contains additional material. Full t.p. text continues: 'To which is prefixed A Narrative of the Recent Events that have led to the publication of the original documents with A Statement of Facts relative to The Child now under the Protection of Her Royal Highness'. t.p.+advertisement+contents+additional 'A Narrative of the Recent Events', these prelims paginated to xxxii,+ 248+133 (Appendices and 'Statement of Facts relative to the child.' (p.119 to end). Edges uncut. Textblock clean, tight & unmarked, no provenance marks, front endpaper slightly awkwardly bound to pastedown and t.p.; covers as clean as can reasonably be expected for the genre, main problem is rubbing to both joints which has partially exposed a few gatherings along lower front, spine rubbed and chipped esp.along front edge and no lettering visible, if it ever existed, despite the spine and joint faults it remains tight and firmly attached, slight corner bumping as inevitable after 200 years. Edwards was the original publisher and claims, regarding the final section, todisclose 'circumstances of great interest, which are exclusively in the possession of the publisher'. Several other editions (pirated?) seem to have appeared the same year in the United States and Scotland. Not uncommon but an essential historical document for students of the famous episode and this copy, if not particularly attractive is fully authentic, in excellent internal condition and secure. Note: quoted non-UK shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range. Size: 14.5 Cm x 23 Cm. Seller Inventory # 007110
