Limited edition, (#91/250), NF/(slipcase)VG+. Book has very little wear. Slipcase has some wear to edges, light soiling in a few places, paper at top of spine is starting to separate but is still holding. Book has marbleized boards, cloth spine, slipcase has 91 at top of spine in ink matching the number on colophon page. The volume in pocket size, color illustration on first page, first word (NOW) in gold (gilt), first letter in each paragraph is one of various colors (red, turquoise, green, orange, purple). No. 89 of 250, 4" tall, 42 pp. The second edition of The Book of Ruth printed by the Grabhorns, the first being in a larger format and printed the year previous, and which was one of the Fifty Books of the Year for 1926. The type was not reset for this subsequent edition, the double columns of the first Book of Ruth were simply used in a single column (N.B., from Heller and Magee).___DESCRIPTION: Bound in quarter tan cloth with marbled paper boards in shades of tan, orange and some blue, title in gold on spine, plain endpapers, prior owner bookplate on the front pastedown of Walter and Anita Newman (the son of the founder of Newman, California), title and colophon printed in red, coloured headpiece, first word of the text and forty-five coloured initials (in red, blue, green, purple, and turquoise) designed and illuminated by Valenti Angelo; 32 mo size (approximately 4.5" tall), unpaginated, (i-ii), (1-40) with colophon on the last page of the text, type Gothique Ancienne, handset, paper Van Gelder. Slipcase covered in plain brown paper.___CONDITION: Overall fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and other than the bookplate referred to above it is entirely free of prior owner markings; the cloth spine has darkened/sunned a bit and a few pages somewhat roughly opened, else fine.
