About this Item

285 pp. and 5 pp. of ads. TEG with a light blue silk placeholder. An anthology of essays for which the well-known journalist Ida M. Tarbell provides an introduction and commentary. She argues that women have a natural power (primarily as homemakers) and that they need to claim the vote as their right. Drawings for section headings have been provided by E. R. Lee Thayer of the Decorative Designers (but here she has her own personal monogram made out of her initials). The book is bound in a dark limp leather stamped in gold with a design of a summer arbor house with seats, framing gold lettering. The design is signed by Bertha Stuart whose initials are also on the endpapers. This copy has a name in ink and a 1923 date on the half-title page. The cover bows outward. There is a half-inch tear where the bottom of the spine meets the rear cover. The top of the spine is somewhat worn. The front cover is quite bright. Bookseller Inventory # 000639

Store Description

Alberta's Books is a seller of several thousand used, rare, and out-of-print books from a home in a historic district in Kingston, New York. The collection originated when I bought some charming old books from a mansion down the street and found Alberta's name in them. As years went by, I was continually attracted to the kind of well-made, often beautiful books that were commonly bought as gifts and to form reading libraries around 1900 - the kind of books Alberta had. But we also collect and now sell other kinds of books as well and we are always interested in acquiring out-of-print books that are in exceptionally good condition.
