The syllabus for what appears to be a self directed reading course on Charles Dickens, his life and work. Primary reading includes Forster's biography and Dickens' letters. Suggested also are Marzials' biography, Gissing's criticism, Mamie Dickens' memoir of her father and the autobiographical "David Copperfield." Supplemental lectures by Lang on Dickens, Barr on his moral services and Hughes on Dickens and educational reform. Dickens' autobiographical fragment is reprinted.
