Pamphlet sized with printed covers. No outer wraps present. Pagination runs 217-262 (rear cover). LACKING both illustrations. A post-Revolutionary War era magazine containing articles and essays on various subjects. The magazine was published from 1783-1786. This issue contains a short of Major-General Warren, a Revolutionary War participant, with brief mention of Bunker Hill; a two page piece on whaling, (whale fishing) drawn from J. Hector St. John's letters; a proclamation from then Massachusetts governor John Hancock; and a plan for ten new states outlining the potential divisions of western territories into new states, as well as providing some interesting names for them (Sylvania, Michigania, Cherronesus, Assenisipia, Metropotamia, Illinoia, Saratoga, Washington, Polypotamia, and Pelisipia). FAIR condition, SEPARATED into its 6 signatures. Moderate to heavy browning to the paper. Minor foxing and staining. Some creasing and curling along the fore edge and corners. Several pages cropped close along the fore edge margin. Minor pencil notations on the front and rear covers. Sabin 6495. Richardson, A History of Early American Magazines.
