LACKING any wraps and frontis illustration that were issued. 55 pp. A single issue of this magazine, featuring a lengthy article on the history of witchcraft, discussing superstitions and beliefs from ancient times to the then present, and discussing different civilizations practices of it, including the Egyptians and the Druids. This account also discusses at some length, the accusations of witchcraft in the early colonies, especially Massachusetts, describing the persecution of Mary Parsons, Moll Pitcher and others accused of practicing witchcraft. Also included is continuation of an article on the first settlement of the United States, short accounts of useful inventions and improvements, etc. Samuel L. Knapp edited the Boston Gazette in 1824, and established this and the National Republican in the mid 1820's. He was noted for biographical writings (Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography). GOOD condition. Minor to moderate chipping and creasing along the fore edge, with a few minor tears. Minor foxing to the first page. Interior clean and solid. Bookseller Inventory # 006869
