Boston, 1838. 8vo, modern cloth rebind, 516 pp. The first volume of this scarce quarterly journal, edited by Orestes Brownson. Entire first volume offered. Contains a lengthy review of Emerson's "An Oration Delivered" (pp. 106-120), as well as a range of articles on other subjects, including abolitionaism. This volume consists of the first four issues, published in January, April, July and October of 1838, continuously paginated. Brownson wrote most of the articles himself. A well preserved copy, with excellent contents and a fine modern binding. Some stray marks to preliminary pages and first title page. Very good condition overall. Bookseller Inventory # 15075
