Michael I. Sovern, a scholarship student from the South Bronx, graduated summa cum laude from Columbus College and was first in his class from Columbia Law School. At age 28 he became the youngest full professor in the modern history of the university. Sovern was successively Dean of the Law School, Provost of the University, and President for 13 years.
