Book Description Editions Rombaldi. Book Condition: Very Good-, cover/slipcase. Limited Edition, 1947. FOLIO, 78+ pgs, B/W Illus, Hardcover Hardcover: Limited edition of 350 copies of which this is #317. Hardcover portfolio in slipcase. Portfolio covers and interior are foxed and soiled. Emile Antoine Bourdelle is imprinted on the spine in green. Inside the portfolio covers is an illustrated softcover with a line drawing and Bourdelle written on the cover. This softcover is encased in onion skin. The softcover and onion skin are chipped at corners and spine ends with some foxing. 24 page text is laid in and has some foxing as well. The plate index lists 78 plates. The laid in plates are numbered 1 through 79, however numbered plates 11 and 78 are missing, but there is an additional unnumbered color plate laid in as well. The total comes to 78 plates present. The plates are clean and crisp. This portfolio is encased in a tired slipcase that is worn, soiled, split, frayed and foxed. Bookseller Inventory # 023365

Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. color(pastel) portrait frontispiece and 77 other large illustrations of sculpture and paintings (illustrator). Limited Edition. Copy 4 of only 350 copes, a fine retrospective of the sculpture and painting (9 in color) of Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929). Unbound signatures (as issued) in thin wraps with fine dust jacket protected in the original glassine. A tall ( 15 plus inches, 39 cm) volume, so the fine illustrations are oversize. Protected in the original titled hardback folder that slips into a slipcase. The original slipcase has been handsomely restored and is now in fine condition with the original title onboth boards. No rubs or edge wear. Bourdelle was an influential and prolific French sculpter, painter and teacher. His studio is now the Bourdelle Museum in Paris (wikipedia). An exceptional copy. In-4 broché en feuilles sous étui portefeuille et emboîtage, tirage limité à 350 exemplaires sur vélin pur fil numérotés, plus quelques exemplaires de collaborateurs, le nôtre porte le N° III en chiffres romains édité nominativement pour Paul LORENZ lui-même (exemplaire d'artiste), envoi autographe signé de l'auteur, une aquarelle en frontispice, 23 pp. Exemplaire bien complet des 78 planches en noir et en couleurs (pour certaines). Antoine Bourdelle fut élève de Rodin, La "grande prêtresse de la danse" Isadora Duncan (dont quelques croquis illustrent le présent ouvrage) fut son égérie: ''Il était naturel que Bourdelle, avant tous les autres, essayât de transposer dans ses dessins cette sorte de passion didactique, qui rappelle tant la sienne, à rejoindre à travers des formes très étudiées ce qu'il y a de simplement humain en Isadora Duncan comme en lui même. (.) Dans ces croquis pris au vil, Bourdelle a retrouvé chez la danseuse ce double courant intérieur qui l'anime, et traduit le plus riche trésor de mythes et de symboles par les attitudes de la danse, trépidantes, convulsives, échevelées, ondoyantes comme la mer ou les feuilles dans le vent'', écrit Elie faure (''D'Isadora et de la danse'', in Ombres solides, 1934).
