Description:

Inscribed and signed by Archie Moore, 1981. Archie Moore formally retired from boxing at the age of forty-seven as the undefeated light-heavyweight champion of the world. During his twenty-eight years in the ring, he registered 136 knockouts and earned a reputation as one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport. Although he lost a last bid to gain the heavyweight crown from a young Cassius Clay, ring aficionados have always wondered what might have happened if the "Magnificent Mongoose" had met Clay when both were in their prime. Today, Archie Moore has distinguished himself iln yet another area. He has become a leader in the fight to influence the minds of the nation's youth. Several years ago Archie organized the ABC program in the ghetto area of San Diego. The club, whose initials stand for "Any Boy Can," was designed by Archie to motivate youngsters to lead better lives and achieve personal goals. He believes that these objectives can be attained through racial harmony in a better America that provides justice and equality for all. An outspoken foe of unlawful action and racial violence, his outstanding success with youngsters has earned him commendation from the White House, congratulations from the Governor of California and, in 1968, the title of "Mr. San Diego." Archie's book is an honest look at what a man can achieve regardless of his beginnings. 8 pages of glossy photos. Size: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2' Tall. Bookseller Inventory #

He had one of the longest professional careers in the history of the sport. Nicknamed 'The Mongoose,' and then 'The Old Mongoose' in the latter half of his career, Moore holds the record for the most career knockouts (131) in boxing history. Moore was a highly strategical and defensive boxer, with a great chin and bludgeoning power, he ranks #4 on The Ring's list of '100 greatest punchers of all time.' Moore is rated by prominent boxing website BoxRec as the third greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all-time. Moore was also a trainer for a short time after retirement. He trained boxers such as Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and James Tillis. During the 1960s he founded an organization called Any Boy Can, which taught boxing to underprivileged youth in the San Diego area. Seller Inventory # SP11-1261-6810
