About this Item

Octavo. Frontispiece, 271pp., errata tipped in before preface, 11pp. publisher's catalog, illustrated with four woodcuts. Presentation copy "with/Messg. Brassey Wythes and Wheelwright's /Compliments". This is the history of Brazil, its progress in government, industries, travel and especially its railways. etc. The Argentine Railway, The Rouen, the Havre Railway, and several other railways were constructed by Brassey, Wythes, and Wheelwright. The construction of railways was a work peculiarly adapted to being executed by contract, and the practice consequently speedily increased when once it had been instituted. Brassey became thoroughly known as a contractor throughout the world and commissions multiplied with him. A very nice copy bound in brown cloth stamped with a gilt emblem with dragons, shield and crown, spine lettering gilt, pale yellow endpapers, small bookseller's ticket, erasure of recipient's name above gift inscription, leaning just a bit. A lovely copy. Bookseller Inventory # 019947
