Poetry. Asian American Studies. BRIDGING THE WATERS is an international, bilingual (English-Korean / Korean-English) poetry anthology, translated into and from Korean by Rachel S. Rhee, Irene Seonjoo Yoon, Kyung-Nyun Kim Richards, and Kyung Hwa Rhee. It includes 15 American poets, 20 international, multilingual poets (from Bangladesh, Argentina, Russia, Israel, Catalonia, Turkey, Romania, Australia, St. Thomas, Peru, Germany, Japan, Iran, Italy, Serbia, Wales), 24 Korean-American poets, and 16 poets from Korea. In the words of the Korean editor, Yoon-Ho Cho, "It is my sincere hope that this volume with serve as a small bridge toward the globalization of Korean literature."
About the Author:Yoon-Ho Cho was born in Korea and made his literary debut in 1963 by winning the New Writer's Award of the Korean journal JayuMunhak. He immigrated to the US in 1971 and has published in numerous journals, such as the American poetry journals Lips, The Paterson Literary Review, and the Welsh poetry journal The Seventh Quarry. He has published five books of poetry, including Meet Like Wildflowers, The River Empties Its Heart, and The Love of an Apple Tree. In 1997, he received the 4th Gasan Literature Award and in 2012, The Korean-American Poet Association honored him with their Literature Award. He is a member of PEN USA, the editor of Korean Expatriate Literature and the ex-officio president of the Korean Expatriate Literary Association. With Stanley H. Barkan, he is the co-editor of BRIDGING THE WATERS: AN INTERNATIONAL BILINGUAL POETRY ANTHOLOGY (Cross-Cultural Communications, 2013).
Stanley H. Barkan, the American-English editor, is the editor/publisher of Cross- Cultural Communications. He is also an original poet and translator, whose own work has been published in 15 collections. He generally co-translates with an informant from a number of languages. His latest book of poetry is ABC OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES (AngoBoy (Sofia, Bulgaria), 2012). He received an award from the Korean Expatriate Literary Association for his contribution to the promotion of the globalization of Korean literature.
