First published in 1745 as a thirteen shilling portfolio this work was destined to be the first architecture book published in America, and according to MILLARD Vol.II. p.313, " Little is known of the life of this self-styled architect, but the influence of his work in America was significant." COLVIN p.799. "Though his external elevations were more or less Palladian in character, his interior designs reflected the contemporary taste for rococo decoration. FOWLER p.274. "For example, plate L,LI, LIII show elements of the mantels found in the Brice House at Annapolis, Maryland. William Buckland who built and decorated the Brice House owned a copy of the London 1745 edition." First few leaves dampstained at upper corner head not affecting text, last few leaves frayed at same area. interior generally clean, raised bands, spine labels in red and green printed in gilt.
