About this title

Synopsis:

This comprehensive and newly-revised text surveys not only such familiar topics as the Cabinet, Parliament, parties, pressure groups, and local government but also such often neglected issues as political culture, corporatism, the police and judiciary, the mass media, political recruitment and political style, and economic decline.

About the Author:

Dennis Kavanagh is Professor of Politics at the University of Liverpool, and is regarded as a pre-eminent figure in the teaching and study of British politics. He is also former President of the Politics Association (for A Level teachers of Politics) and has co-authored a number of the landmark Nuffield ESRC-sponsored studies of British General Elections. He has written numerous student books on British politics, including The Thatcher Effect: A Decade of Change (OUP, 1989 - 463 copies sold) with Anthony Seldon, Thatcherism and British Politics: The End of Consensus? (OUP, 1987 - 14497 copies sold in UK: two editions), British Politics Today (Manchester University Press, 1979) with Bill Jones (which used to be used as an A Level text) and he is a contributor to Politics UK (Harvester Wheatsheaf, 2/e 1994).
