About this Item

24pp. Early 19th century plain yellow wraps, soiled. Title and last leaf soiled, else a good copy. Maclaren (1755-1826) fought in the American Revolution and later turned to his pen to sustain himself. He wrote more that 27 little pieces - none of them have been acted at the regular London theatres, but most of them are pleasing triffles - he had a happy knack at writing easy and natural dialogue - in this one point he had few superiors. This work was written at a time when Napoleon was expected to invade England. (Genest, Some Account of the English Stage). Bookseller Inventory # 000230
