Broadside or flyer printed on pale yellow paper, illustrated with a woodcut of the Pitcher Maud Nelson. Approximately 7" x 14". Framed. Unexamined out of the frame but appears fine. The broadside printed fairly extensive press notices of previous games from newspapers as diverse as Milwaukee, Marquette, (Michigan), Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Richmond, and Butte, several commenting on Nelson: "Miss Maude Nelson is a peach, her work in the box alone is worth the price of admission to the game." - *Marquette Mining Journal*. Apparently a generic flyer used in multiple venues, this one very faintly stamped in red ink at the bottom in a black space provided: "Cleveland / Saturday." Bloomer Girl teams were named for the baggy pantaloons they wore as part of their uniforms, and were a popular barnstorming novelty attraction from about 1910 until the mid 1930s, playing against other female teams, male teams, other barnstormers such as the House of David, and even against Negro League teams. The team usually consisted of seven or eight women (often with a man to catch and sometimes pitch), and on some occasion with men in drag playing some of the positions. The New York Bloomer Girls, were perhaps the best-known of the teams. An attractive flyer from the earlier part of the Bloomer Girl era. Seller Inventory # 469390
