My Brother's Wife
207 pages, plus ads. The British author's first book, a novel about a spurned woman travelling through Europe, first published in 1855. Uncommon in any edition. Edwards was a popular novelist and travel writer in the second half of the 19th century. Her later books on Egypt were bestsellers and influential accounts of the country, more notable still because Edwards travelled alone or with a female companion at a time when very few women would venture a thousand miles down the Nile without a male escort. Later printing. A very good copy in green-brown boards with gilt lettering on the spine. 8 pages of publisher's ads. Moderate wear to edges. No dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 121066
