Title continued: "including complete sets of books in wholesale and retail merchandising, farming, settlement of estates, forwarding, commission, banking, exchange, stock brokerage, etc. with full explanations and appropriate remarks on the customs of trade; and examples of the most important business forms in use." 375 p.: tables, facsimiles; 27 cm. Original dark green cloth with over-all embossed decoration and gilt-stamped spine title "Bryant and Stratton's Counting House Book-Keeping." All page edges marbled. Front fixed endpaper bears "Commendations of the Leading Bankers of Troy, Albany, Portland, Cleveland, and Detroit" dated 1863. Printed in red and black throughout. Includes sample woodcut letterhead for notes and other commercial documents. Front free endpaper has former owner's inscription: "S.W. ?, Seville, Ohio." Below that is "Wadsworth Bank." In 1854 the authors, H.B. (Henry Beadman) Bryant and H.D. (Henry Dwight) Stratton, established Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Cleveland to provide practical workplace education. They also established up to 50 business schools throughout the United States, called Bryant & Stratton & Co.'s International Commercial Colleges. The third author, S.S. (Silas Sadler) Packard, established the New York City Commercial College.
