Published May, 1920, either the 2nd or 3rd edition of this popular series, with "EU" code on copyright page and the number 1 on the spine. This series sold millions of copies when first issued as a result of one of the most extensive and expensive advertising campaigns for a children's trade book of that era. The first of the Harper Columbia Graphophone "Books that Sing" series, as issued in hardcover without a dust jacket, illustrated in color, with three 78 rpm records, with the three recordings: "Tom, The Piper's Song"; Mary and Her Little Lamb"; and "Jack and Jill". Illustrated cover boards are worn, scuffed and somewhat soiled with illustrations still bright and text fully readable on front and back panel. Interior pages are clean and unmarked, except for prior owner's name inked to front paste down. Binding is square and solid. Since I don't have a turntable, I cannot test these recordings but they appear to be in very good condition. Sold As Is. This is the first of a series of 14 books in this series issued jointly by Columbia and Harper. The Books that Sing series was the first of its kind for children, combining children's books, illustrations and recordings of songs, specifically for kids. The author patented the books on August 7, 1917. The songs were likely sung by Henry Burr. Bookseller Inventory #
