From the Author: W e want to honor the many, many friends and colleagues who have been so supportive of our challenging the status quo over the years and who enthusiastically encouraged us to lay out those challenges and create the blueprint for change that resulted in the creation of this book.
 
We also want to thank all of our clients for letting us tell their stories (even though we changed many of their names to protect confidentiality) . We hope that eventually more of them will let their identities be known; to inspire others to learn from their journeys.
 
Additionally, we want to acknowledge those who have gone before us for their persistence in challenging the stuckness we describe in the first section of this book through their own work -- for not being satisfied with "business as usual" -- especially when it isn't working.
 
Finally, we want to acknowledge each other. We have been on parallel paths challenging the status quo for decades, passionate about making a difference for workplace culture and employee wellbeing. It has been invigorating and an absolute joy for us to create this unique work together. As one enlightened leader put it, he wants his employees to view their time at work not as a job or even a career, but as a calling. This book, from beginning to end, has for us felt like a calling -- a labor of love.
