About this Item

Good Plus Condition, no dustjacket. Ivory buckram covered boards, with top edge gilt and others uncut. Covers are lightly browned toward the edges, and the spine is quite brownwd; probably tobacco smoke. There are two stains on the cover; perhaps tea or coffee, also a scattering of dents. Slightly bumped at head and tail of spine, but otherwise very sound. Internally very clean, but two pages have been carelessly opened, with no loss of text, with another corner once folded down. A selected and annotated version of the lengthy original by the Maharajah, who deeply regretted his failure to go to Oxford or Cambridge, but dedicated a large portion of his life to the eradication of illiteracy. An early decree brought free education to Primary standard to all children in Baroda. " I would bring to the poor man or woman, the ordinary man of the bazaar, to the common people everywhere, this wealth of literature now only known to the educated". Size 198 x 140 mm. 370 pages.
