Thick 8vo. (23 cm.) 332p. Plus 4p. ads. Red cloth with gilt letters on the spine. Top stained red, fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. Some wear to extremities with the corners just barely rubbed through, dampstain at very bottom of spine that extends on to covers, lower edges of outer gutters show evidence of starting to fray, front free endpaper has long hand-written description of the previous owner's stay in the home of the subject of this biography, spine gilt dulled, else very good to near fine with no foxing and no internal markings. No dust jacket. Camille Desmoulins [Lucie-Simplice-Camille-Benoist Desmoulins,1760-1794] was one of the most influential journalists and pamphleteers of the French Revolution. He wrote the pamphlet "Le France Libre" (1789) supporting the revolution. Excited by the dismissal of Necker (July 11, 1789), he harangued crowds (July 12), urging revolt with the actual beginning of the Revolution, the Bastille being taken two days later.
