Synopsis: The newly released Second Printing of the Third Edition of ''CANNERY ROW, The History of John Steinbeck's Old Ocean View Avenue" sets a new standard for archival photo publication with a completely re-PhotoShop of its over 200 images from the Pat Hathaway Collection, a new high gloss 15 point "firm cover"--and silver metallic ink highlight trim to distinguish it from its earlier Third Edition printing. Still at the same price.
About the Author: Born in Berkeley, California, in 1942; attended lower-division at Gonzaga University; graduated University of California, Berkeley, in International Relations. US Air Force Special Intelligence Officer; veteran of Special Operations in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnams. Writer-photographer turned historian. Created the Non-profit Cannery Row Foundation in 1983 to preserve the unwritten history of Cannery Row. Over a thousand oral history interviews with surviving cannery workers, businessmen, friends and relatives of John Steinbeck and pioneering ecologist Ed Ricketts shape an easy to read and beautifully illustrated record of the history of Ocean View Avenue (Cannery Row). Michael Kenneth Hemp is now conducting research throughout the Pacific Northwest revealing the shared legacies with Monterey and Cannery Row. They include little-known Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck connections, Pacific Northwest boatbuilding for Monterey's fleet, and the famed 1940 Steinbeck-Ricketts voyage on the Tacoma-built Western Flyer to the Sea of Cortez. Founder and now President Emeritus of the Cannery Row Foundation, Cannery Row's historian for almost four decades now resides in Gig Harbor, Washington, with his wife, Terri Wolfson--and staff of standard poodles Devin and Sheba. In Joseph Campbell's words, following his bliss.
