Vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) double weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, UK. Here is the former professional boxer who became a film actor and distinguished singer in film and in stage production as he appeared in one of his earlier British films. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, he first gained notice as a boxer, and therefore Alfred Hitchcock cast him in his early British effort, THE RING in 1927. The film, particularly the scenes in the boxing ring with Brisson, demonstrated Hitchcock's unique and creative way of camera use. From there, Brisson had a distinguished career in film and on stage -- and starred in one more Hitchcock film, the 1929 film THE MANXMAN. He has inscribed the photo in fountain pen: "Yours, Carl Brisson, 1929." We cannot identify the film from which this portrait of him was made, except to say that it cannot be of him (in this dressy period costume) for his role of a humble fisherman in MANXMAN, nor of his character of a boxer in THE RING. However, if you are a serious Hitchcock collector, you may be interested to obtain this early autographed portrait of one of Hitchcock's very first leading actors. "From the Mark H. Wolff collection". NEAR FINE. Bookseller Inventory #
