Ex-private lending library copy. First edition (per publisher's Roman numeral "I" upon copyright page). 223 pages. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13cm. Dust jacket with terrific front panel and spine illustration by Arthur Hawkins, Jr. in shades of black, blue, and gray showing a car and its headlights piercing the nighttime darkness of a coastal road and illuminating a small fleeting figure. Dj lightly rubbed; mild vertical crease to front panel; slender shallow chip at top edge of front flap with black tape along flap's terminal edge; rear flap with same black tape treatment both from where dj was previously secured to pastedowns; 2cm closed tear at rear panel's top right corner with large chip at top left. Dark orange cloth, remnant single vertical black tape strips affixed at top and bottom edges of boards. Some foxing, soiling and light staining to edges; endpapers toned with aforementioned vertical strips of tape on pastedowns; three-line ink notation at ffep top right corner regarding lending prices (the only lending library mark now present) with past owner's pencil signature near center; top corner of pages 27-28 creased from past fold-down; some scattered soiling and foxing to interior pages.
