First edition (per "First published 1953" statement upon copyright page). viii, 381 pages. Hardcover: H 25cm x L 16.75cm. White and blue dust jacket well rubbed with some soiling, scuffing and light wear at spine and flap fold ends with short tear at spine head, abrasion lengthwise along spine joints to panels, bumping and some curling along top edges, swath of black ink obscuring half of printed price line at front flap's bottom right corner; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Handsome dark blue cloth with bright gilt stamped lettering to spine, light rubbing to boards with some shelf scuffing along bottom edges, spine heel bumped. Light toning to edges; past owner's name stamp "O.R. Ainsworth" upon top edge with ink signature "Oscar Richard Ainsworth" on front pastedown. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy in a very good- dust jacket. Acquired from the personal collection of University of Alabama Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Oscar Richard Ainsworth (1922-2001).
