Quarto, tan cloth stamped in red, pp. [ii], 224, illustrated with 178 plates (including full-page color plates, and photographs by Eugene Payor, reproducing artwork by Jean Charlot). Contains acknowledgements by Inez Cumming, an introduction by Lamar Dodd, and commentaries by Jean Charlot: "Public Speaking in Paint." Signed by Jean Charlot on extra publisher's leaf (as issued). Nicely printed, with format and typography design by Jean Charlot. Artist, and children's book illustrator Jean Charlot was born in Paris (in 1898), moved to Mexico City in 1921 (where he was an assistant to Diego Rivera), and, in 1949, he became a professor of art at the University of Hawaii (at Manoa), until his death in 1979. Owner's neat ink name on front flyleaf, dated in year of publication ("Joy Barnett, March, 1945"). A fine, bright copy in very good dust jacket; tan dust jacket (printed in red) is moderately rubbed and nicked on spine, few small soil spots on front panel, few short closed tears to extremities, else quite bright and crisp. First edition, signed issue, with an extra publisher's leaf (following front flyleaf), signed by Jean Charlot. Bookseller Inventory # 54164
