Appendix: The Open Door, Lord Beresford's Speech Before the Commercial Club, Chicago, Feb. 18, 1899. Chronology of China. Yellow cloth with red letters on the front cover and the spine, with black Chinese characters on the front cover and with the dragon flag in red and black on the front cover and the spine. Wear to extremities with the corners just rubbed through, top and bottom of spine beginning to fray, spine darkened, cloth somewhat soiled, previous owner's signature and city (Benjamin F. Bates, Pomona, Calif.), all photo plates in fine condition, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. A detailed survey of everything about China in the period: history, language, literature, government, customs, manners, women, marriage, religion, finance, commerce, army, navy, and the like.
