About this Item

No date listed of publication, its either the 1970, or 1971 edition (I called the Library of Congress and Random House, neither could give me a date of publication, the LOC did catalogue this book in 1971, but they can not comfirm the publication date), this edition was printed in Italy, 299 pages + Index, profusely illustrated. "At long last the West is looking with interest and appreciation at Chinese furniture. In the past this furniture was sought out by a few pioneer collectors who lived in China during the first part of the 20th century. Fortunately many curators of the Oriental arts of American museums were well aware of the great beauty of this furniture. The time is now ripe for more than a visual presentation of this important field of Chinese decorative arts. I have given detailed descriptions of intricate forms of joinery- so radically different from the European forms. It is the most minute of these details that places Chinese furniture in distinct and proper periods. Many conclusions are based on the change of seat styles during the Ming period." FINE HARDCOVER, green silk cloth covers, lettering is bright on the spine, slipcase is in fine-condition. Also present is a 7 page exhibition catalog "Chinese Domestic Furniture from Atkins Museum/Nelson Gallery of Art from 1966. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 021175
