About this Item

Octavo hardcover in light grey blindstamped cloth with spine lettered in gilt. No copyright (intentionally and so stated on the title page) stated "Revision August, 1901". 704 pp. with index of persons and places, index of subjects. A tight, generally fine example, small smudge on rear board. Issued without dust wrapper. A touchstone work on urban development in relation to the influence needed by the people. The author, who is best known for his seminal work in vocational guidance, argues with what has turned out to be great prescience, for example for public ownership of utilities, the "popular veto" (i.e. public referendum) , local government by local people, anti-monoplies, etc. Bookseller Inventory # E12909B
