Large octavo, contemporary full calf, stamped in gilt on spine, with early red morocco spine label, pp. vi, 504; includes 'Copy Right Secured' leaf (i.e. half-title page) and "District of West Tennessee" deposit notice slip, tipped-in, following the title page. "This work, only less rare than the Aboriginal History of Tennessee by the same author, contains a large portion of the material relating to the border warfare with the Indians. The Story of Indian conflicts and massacres is narrated with great detail and minuteness." [Field 671]. Owner's early ink name, dated 1845, on half-title page, stating: "Alfred H. White's Book. 1845" (on 'Copy Right Secured' leaf), and signed by owner on title page. Binding is quite rubbed at extremities of spine and covers, with shallow chip at crown of spine, lacks blank front flyleaf, front hinge started and front cover sprung (but binding is very tight), half-title page (the "Copy Right Secured" leaf) is creased and partially detached, text is moderately foxed, with two-inch tear at top edge of rear flyleaf, else a very good copy, with "District of West Tennessee" deposit notice slip, tipped-in, following the title page. . First edition; with the "Copy Right Secured" leaf preceding the title page, and with "District of West Tennessee" deposit notice slip, tipped-in, following the title page.
