Book Description The Baronet Litho Company, Inc., Johnstown, NY, 1952. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. "This story is gleaned from Mohawk Valley history. Some of it, in scattered, fragmentary form, has appeared in print. Contemporary civil and military records, personal letters and account books furnished much enlightening material - even family tradition proved helpful. Records of the Canadian Archives and the Sir William Johnson Papers, published by the State of New York, contain much factual data; the folklore of Jeptha R. Simms and the county histories of the locale are rich with the Johnson lore and other legends. It is believed that no significant historical truths have been violated. History sketched the outline - imagination completed the picture. One may still find the broken and mossy stones which mark the graves of many of the characters. Some are set in Canadian soil, others in the distant churchyards of ancestral England and Ireland. Across the Mohawk Valley they cluster about the foundations of antiquated churches or mark the beginnings of homestead burial grounds, their weather-worn inscriptions in Dutch or English all but illegible. Removed from one of these earlier interments, Clarissa Putman lies in Vale cemetery, Schenectady, beneath a marble slab." Twelve illustrations on plates; eight in full color. 423 pages. Book is in GOOD condition. No dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 005050
