Book Description Sierra Club, San Francisco, California, 1956. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. This 5.0 x 7.5 inch, 301 page hardcover book with jacket is the stated second printing of this title in 1956. The book was first printed in 1954 by the Sierra Club. This copy is in near fine condition with the blue cloth covers, with silver design and lettering on front and spine bright and clean, with just the slightest touch of wear to the top corners. The dust jacket is in only good condition as there is a 4.0 by 1.5 inch piece of the jacket missing from the top front panel that removes half of the word "Climbers" from the book tile on that front panel. Beyond that, the dust jacket is nonetheless in very good condition with only minor edge wear and chipping to be seen. The interior text pages are in near fine condition with no markings or damage to note. This 1956 edition does have the two initial photographs, one at the frontispiece and the other just beyond the contents of pages showing Mt. Huxley by Ansel Adams and a portrait of William Shand, with a following brief biography of Shand. The text pages feature 16 additional photos by Ansel Adams, Philip Hyde, Richard Leonard, Francis Farquhar, and others. The text pages contain an unequaled base of information on the high peaks of the Sierra crest including accounts of earlier ascents and different routes to the top. The text contains numerous sketchings of the climbing routes and considerable elevation data and information. This handbook, for many years, was the bible for climbing in the High Sierra. 301 pages.
