About this Item

Second edition of an important work on growing cocoa, intended as a guide to planters and as a source of information for all those concerned with the crop. One of a series of books on trop;ical agriculture which include books on Rice, Tea, Bananas, Beekeeping in the Tropics, and (later) Spices. This edition takes into account that the crop was beginning to be cultivated intensively; in addition to cultivation, the author discusses production, consumption and marketing of the cocoa bean. New chapters have been added on "The Manuring of Cocoa" and "The Supply of Planting Material". The chapter on Vegetative Propagation has been revised in light of modifications to older methods and the introduction of simpler techniques. The chapter in this edition entitled "The Botany of Cocoa" was written by the late Professor R.E.D. Baker. Fully illustrated by photographs, both black and white and (some in) colour.
