Allen Tate (1899-1979) was born near Winchester, Kentucky, and, like fellow Kentuckian Robert Penn Warren, became a member of The Fugitives while studying at Vanderbilt University. Among others in the group, who would become major American writers, were Andrew Lytle, Merrill Moore, John Crowe Ransom, and Donald Davidson. Later, he and his wife would spend time in Paris with the celebrated group of expatriates which included Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Back in Tennessee in the 1930's he would join what came to be known as the Agrarian Movement. His writings included biography, fiction, and especially poetry. Bookseller Inventory # 11887
