About this Item

[16], 740, [12] pp.; 4to, period full calf. Erich (or Erik) Pontoppidan (1698-1764). Danish bishop, preacher, writer, antiquary. Author of several influential religious works (he was a defender of the Pietists), as well as important works of Scandinavian history and geography, and a novel - "Menoza." This copy with the bookplate of Danish banker and famed collector F. S. (Frederik Siegfred) Bangs (1810-1889) affixed to front pastedown. Old ink inscription written across bookplate: "Kristelig Herberger Bibliothek No. 14. H. S. Dahlstrom." Overall scuffing and wear to covers, splitting to joints, though stout sewing cords are holding nicely, wear to edges and corners, front free endpaper lacking, still sturdy and fairly presentable.
