Illustrated throughout. Thick 4to, printer's original green/gray cloth covered boards, the spine lettered and decorated with silversmith's marks in black, in the original dustjacket similarly lettered and decorated. xxiii, 1241 pp. A very fine copy, as mint. FIRST EDITION. A PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED of the "most thorough study of a group of early American craftsmen published to date." The work covers 296 silversmiths and jewelers who worked in Massachusetts prior to the American Revolution. It records more then 6000 examples of their work and illustrates 424 marks.
