About this Item

Foreword by Julius F. Stone. Much on the who came first, James White or J.W. Powell . Farquhar Bibliography : "A highly important book, but one not to be evaluated without a careful examination not only of the subject matter of the controversies but of the origin of the book itself. The controversies are: the raft journey of James White, and the affair at Separation Rapids where three of Powell's men left the trip and hiked out of the Canyon. These are but fragments from Stanton's truly prodigious researches." Virtually impossible to locate one of these original first editions today. Farquhar 50. X-library, library markings removed. Handsome old book plate pasted inside cover indicating this book was donated to library by Julis F. Stone (who wrote the Forward). A very clean copy with no library markings, no wear to extremities, bright title, no markings inside, a beautiful facsimile dust jacket, looks original, I had 3-4 dust jackets made made 30 years ago from an excellent original. This is a very nice copy that most would be proud to have in their library. Bookseller Inventory # 000017
