Twelvemo, light green cloth stamped in black [NB: also seen in dark green cloth stamped in light green}, 143 pages, illustrated in black-and-white (with drawings by F. Opper). American artist Frederick Burr Opper (1857-1937) was born in Madison, Ohio; he studied art briefly at Cooper Union and later with illustrator Frank Beard. A political cartoonist and humorist, he appeared in newspapers and periodicals, and later created the 'Happy Hooligan' comic strip. Front hinge is started (binding is tight), tips of spine are lightly rubbed, two tiny nicks to cloth at top edge of rear cover, else a near fine, bright copy in good to very good dust jacket. The cream-colored, printed dust jacket is lightly dust soiled, with shallow chip at crown and half-inch chip at base of spine (with partial loss to two letters in publisher's printed name at base of spine), and two half-inch chips on front panel (at edge of spine), few creased tears on rear panel (with early tape mends on verso), else jacket is complete and quite bright.
