Vintage original 32 x 24" (81 x 61 cm.) affiché moyenne poster, France. François Leterrier, Charles Le Clainche, dir: Robert Bresson; Gaumont. One of Bresson's early masterpieces of austere mimimalism. The poster was designed by Guy Gérard Noël, one of the great post-War French illustrators, and its somber, muted atmospherics perfectly echo the film, which chronicles the escape of a condemned prisoner during World War II. This reissue poster is almost identical to the earlier version of 1956, and almost identically scarce (the one distinct difference is a little bit of additional lettering which occurs on the first version -- the design is the same, and both posters are printed lithographically). On linen, a long diagonal tear in upper right has been neatly mended (and, because it is in the dark background, it is very hard to make out), VERY GOOD. Bookseller Inventory #
