About this Item

Single original ssue with covers and advertisements. Quarto, 11 1/2" tall, 184 pages, stiff illustrated wraps. A good clean periodical overall with minor exterior shelf wear, light exterior soiling, BUT with light damp staining to the cover and interior at the spine, (still perfectly readable) as is) wire staples rusting, internal binding solid, paper otherwise clean lightly yellowed. Note: 'The Cosmopolitan' began publication in 1886, founded by Paul Schlicht. Taken over by John Bisben Walker in 1889, it became a leading periodical for popular quality articles and fiction in its time, using quality illustration and the best authors, and being especially interested in keeping women readers--Taken over by Hearst, it began transition to a 'women's magazine began in the 1920's, and later attempted to work its way back to the middle of the market under the editorship of Mayes. A terrific read as an example of its moment in time and excellent resource. Bookseller Inventory # 32451

Store Description

After thirty years, our Newbury Street shop in Boston has closed and our stock is now available only on-line. Our efforts have always been directed toward good reading copies, but we still have a large selection of first editions and scarce titles. We continue to specialize in all areas of fiction, giving added attention to science fiction and mystery. Our largest non-fiction selection is in history, with emphasis on America and Britain. Though we have always been a general bookseller, with over 250 subject categories to chose from, we maintain strong departments in biography, poetry, drama, essay and music as well.
